What can we learn about a glaze by comparing its unity formula with the limits formulae for the glaze's firing temperature?

Unit 5 Topic 6
The Unity Formula

The unity formulae tables indicate the degree to which the glaze being analysed varies from the norm for a particular firing range.

The degree to which a glaze may melt at a given temperature, or the degree of possible opacity or tendency to run, can be determined by comparing the unity formula for the glaze with the appropriate limit formula for that temperature.

Computer software such as MATRIX use graphic displays to enable quick comparisons between a unity formula and the oxide limits for the firing temperature.
