What does the unity formula express?

The Unity Formula

The unity formula expresses ratios between flux, amphoteric and
acid groups of molecules.

The system describes the glaze in terms of the proportional relationships between the flux group of oxides and other oxides.

In the example formula in the chart for every one molecular part of flux oxides their is 0.4 Al2O3 (alumina) molecues, 0.1 B2O3 (boron) molecules, 2.6 SiO2 (silica) molecules and 0.2 (titania) molecules.

Notice that the molecular parts of the flux group of oxides total one.

We can therefore refer to the following molecuar ratios:

flux to Al2O3 ...........1 : 0.4

flux to silica ............1 : 2.6
