This process
involves lengthy and detailed (though relatively simple) arithmetic
calculations using oxide analyses information about the raw materials
obtained from the raw material's suppliers.
Prior to the
advent of computers these calculations were done by hand making
the process too time consuming for the average ceramist. Over the
last ten years software such as MATRIX has been developed
which will perform unity formula calculations in a matter of seconds
Using unity
formulation as a tool in the understanding and manipulation of glazes
is now a practical and rewarding option for all those working with
clay or glaze.
