What is the melting point of silica?

Unit 1 Topic 3
Glaze Basics
Silica alone melts at temperatures of 1710 deg. C. or more.

The average pottery kiln is not capable of reaching temperatures high enough to melt silica.

In order to melt silica at lower temperatures other materials must be mixed in with the silica.
