Matrix V6 - Blends
Creating a Volumetric Blend

Creating the data you need to make a volumetric blend (line, triaxial or quadraxial) is really easy in Matrix.

The first step is to ensure that you ave created and saved the recipe to use at each end or corner of the blend. If you are making a triaxial blend you would ensure that you have three recipes savid as individual files i.e. one for each "corner" of the triaxial blend.

When you are ready to make the blend the red arrow will step you through the process commencing with the entry of a name for your blend.

After entering the name for the blend you can click the button. The following images come up and you can click on one of these to select the blend type that you want to generate.

When you are ready to make the blend the red arrow will step you through the process commencing with the entry of a name for your blend.

After entering the name for the blend you can click the button. The following images come up and you can click on one of these to select the blend type that you want to generate.

You will then be asked to indicate the number of samples you want in the blend. This is the blend size.

Lets assume that you are creating a triaxial blend. The sample options will be

Line Blend
Triaxial Blend
Quadraxial Blend

After clicking on the blend image for a triaxial the radio button for the size of the triaxial that you want should be clicked.

In the image of the triaxial you will see a red button at each corner A, B, C. Matrix needs to know what glaze you will use in that corner so click on one of the red buttons and select the recipe file for that corner.
After selecting the three files you can click the button and that is all there is to it.

There are three further panels in the Blends window each of which will save, display or print the blend data that Matrix has created.

Currie Recipe Grids

Ian Currie renewed interest in a special quadraxial (he called it a biaxial) blend in which the flux oxides in a recipe remain constant across the 5 x 7 blend while the proportions of Al2O3 and SiO2 changed in a systematic way.Matrix will create one of these grids with a few clicks of your mouse.

To commence creating a Currie Recipe Grid click on the button in the Blends environment window.

You will be led through the process of selecting the source of Al2O3 (usually the same clay that was in the original recipe) and Silica.

The window will locate the position of the original recipe in the grid.
